Bannerghatta Biological park – Bangalore, India
Opened in the year 1974 Bannerghatta National Park is a 25,000 acre zoological park making one of the major tourist attractions of Bangalore. The journey to the park takes lessthan an hour from the city.
Zoo :
The interesting animals of this park are Lions, Crocodiles, Bengal Tigers, White Tigers, sloth bears, Elephants and Panthers among other wildlife.
We also spotted King Cobras, Deer, Himalayan black bear, White peacocks and various other birds. There is also a small museum & Auditorium in the zoo which showcases zoological exhibits.
Boat riding :
2 seater and 4 Seater Boats are available which you can ride for around 20 minutes.Boating would cost Rs 50 per head for half hour. Kids, Families, Couples and friends all enjoy boat riding so I would suggest you to hire a full boat for Rs 250 in which 4 people can be accommodated.
Safari :
Safari is the highlight of this park. This was my first time experiencing a safari and I was very excited to see wild animals upclose. There are two ways you can enjoy the safari, one is by the bus and the other is by a private Jeep. If running out of time , i would suggest you to take a private jeep, as the lines get very big and can take upto 2hours or more to get into the bus. We choose a Non AC Private Jeep as it’s more natural than a AC one which can feel caged. The driver(guide) of our jeepย was very informative about the jungle and made sure we could see a bunch of wild animals. We couldn’t see lions upclose but we saw many Tigers, Deer , Sloth bears, Elephants and other wild animals on our way. It was definitely the highlight of the entire park and we couldn’t ask for more. The entire ride in the jungle took around 45 minutes .
There were different barricades and narrow iron through which our jeep was passing and it reminded me of movie Jurassic park and I felt the thrill more while entering into tiger’s den. We saw morethan 10 tigers there but the most thrilling part was when one of them came so close to my jeep that my heart was literally in my mouth.
Butterfly Garden : This is known to be the country’s first Butterfly garden located inside Bannerghatta National Park which has a butterfly conservatory,a museum and a audio-visual room which really taught me the history of Butterflies.
It also has an artificial waterfall and a pond with fishes making it as a perfect tropical environment for the Butterflies
The Butterfly Garden is huge and beautiful with plenty of butterflies & you will find a wide range of butterflies flying around.
Timings:
Zooย ย : 9:30AM to 5PM
Safari : 10AM to 4:30PM
Holiday : Tuesdays
Tickets :
Prices vary based on type of tour you want. We were a group of 6 people and we bought a group ticket for 3000 rupees (45 USD) which includes admission to Zoo park, Boat Ride, Butterfly Garden, Safari in a private Jeep and permission for photography.
Location :ย
Bannerghatta National Park,
Bannerghatta Road,
Bengaluru, Karnataka 560083

SUMMARY :
It is said that few of the wild animals in this park have been rescued from circuses of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and now the animals were given a fresh lease of life, away from the pathetic conditions in circuses. And the few bucks we pay for this park(tickets) are the contribution towards those animals. Isn’t that amazing !!!

Wow this park looks an amazing place to spend the day and soak in a complete experience with the animals! The safari is definitely something I’d be interested in doing and the garden looks like the perfect place for gorgeous photos. The sight of those elephants at the lake is something I hope to take in live some day.

This place has improved over the last few years. I remember the first time I went, I felt sad for those animals as there was no proper shelter for them. However, over the year, they have changed things around and now it is one amazing place to take kids. Glad you shared your experience.

Cool post I must say. However, I am not the biggest fan of “captured” animal parks. Learned a lot after my Safari trips in Africa that these beautiful animals love to roam freely. Great pictures and write up for sure.

The animals seem to have a lot of space but I’ve heard a lot of negative things about zoos overseas. Is this different since its a park?
